We measure illumination levels on site and compare the results against the relevant Australian Standard – AS/NZS 1158, AS/NZS 1680, AS/NZS 2560.2 or AS/NZS 4282, depending on what’s being assessed. Reports support planning approvals, upgrade decisions and safety reviews.

What a lux test report includes

Every report sets out what was measured, how it was measured, and whether the installation meets the standard. It covers:

  • The standard and lighting category the area is assessed against
  • A measurement grid plan with every recorded reading
  • Average, minimum and uniformity results against the required values
  • The calibrated instruments used
  • Site photos and conditions at the time of testing
  • A clear compliance summary, with practical recommendations where results fall short, such as re-aiming, output adjustment or upgrades

Reports are written to be submitted directly to councils, sporting bodies, certifiers and VCAT.

Measurements are typically taken using calibrated light meters and compared against standards such as AS1158, AS1680 or AS2560 depending on the application.

Lux testing is commonly required for new lighting installations, upgrades or compliance verification. Councils, sporting associations, building certifiers and planning authorities may require lighting measurements to confirm that installations meet Australian Standards or planning permit conditions.

Lux testing is conducted on site using calibrated light meters positioned across a measurement grid. Multiple readings are taken across the area to determine average lighting levels, minimum levels and uniformity. The results are then analysed and presented in a formal compliance report.

Lighting compliance testing is typically assessed against Australian Standards such as AS/NZS 1158 for roads and public spaces, AS/NZS 2560 for sports lighting and AS/NZS 1680 for interior workplaces. Certified lux testing can be carried out by IESANZ qualified lighting consultants or engineers using calibrated equipment. Unbiased independent testing ensures that lighting systems meet the relevant technical standards and planning requirements before certification or project completion.

Most sites take between one and six hours on site, depending on their size and the number of areas tested. Outdoor lighting is tested at night. The report follows within five to seven business days.
